‘Building strong multidisciplinary collaborations has been incredibly important for my scientific work and now at HKU, I aim to draw on this experience to enhance the research impact of the School,’ he said. ‘I want us to nurture new interdisciplinary collaborations that can lead to transformational new discoveries. I am particularly excited to help further strengthen the neuroscience community at HKU, in Hong Kong and beyond, because I believe that by bridging basic and clinical neuroscience, we can make major advances in understanding, preventing and treating neurological and psychiatric disorders.’ ‘I also hope to develop our educational programmes and provide a mentorship structure that can support and encourage the next generation of scientists and ensure they are wellequipped for future challenges.’ Professor Häusser said his first months at HKUMed have been ‘overwhelmingly positive’, praising the commitment of staff, excellent infrastructure, access to cuttingedge core facilities and welldeveloped pathways for translating basic discoveries in collaboration with industry partners. ‘There is a very positive environment here for scientific exploration and I am excited by the potential for growth.
