Experience in Vanuatu Accelerates Growth 瓦努阿圖經歷加速成長 After enrolling in HKUMed’s Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences in 2016, Dr Ryan Lee secured one of only two articulation spots in the MBBS programme in 2018 ― graduating with both degrees in eight years. His unique trajectory allowed him to alternate between biomedical sciences and clinical training, deepening his understanding of medicine from multiple perspectives. ‘My biomedical background gave me a head start in the MBBS programme,’ said Dr Lee, ‘I could connect lab research to patient care, which made complex concepts click faster.’ He credits his dual training for fostering a holistic approach to medicine. His international experience―from clinical research at the University of British Columbia to attending ophthalmology lectures at Yale and Cambridge―further shaped his passion for patient health, leading to his new role as Medical Officer in Ophthalmology at Prince of Wales Hospital in July this year. 李宇軒醫生於2016年入讀醫學院生物醫學學士課程,後於2018 年獲得醫學院僅有的兩個銜接資格之一,升讀MBBS課程,在八 年內完成兩個學位。這獨特的軌跡讓他在生物醫學和臨床培訓之間 交互學習,從多角度深化對醫學的理解。他說:「我的生物醫學背 景為我的MBBS學習打下良好基礎。我能將實驗室研究與病患照 護聯繫起來,更容易理解複雜的概念。」他認為雙重訓練培養了他 對醫學的宏觀思維。從參與英屬哥倫比亞大學的臨床研究,到前 往耶魯大學和劍橋大學上眼科課程,他的國際經驗進一步激發了對 病患健康的熱情。今年七月,他踏上新崗位,成為威爾斯親王醫 院的眼科醫生。 Ken spent his Enrichment Year volunteering with Medical Santo in Vanuatu. He worked alongside clinicians from diverse specialties, supported daily clinic operations, and assisted in a diabetes research project. Outside the clinic, weekends on Tutuba Island profoundly impacted him. ‘Snorkelling and fishing with the children revealed a selfsufficient community whose joy came from simplicity and connection,’ he reflected.
