HKUMed is actively seeking outstanding scholars through its ‘140 for 140 Global Recruitment Campaign’ to address rapid advancements in teaching and research and to expand collaboration with Mainland China and globally. Building on a series of global events over the past two years, Professor Chak-sing Lau, Vice-President & Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health) and Dean of Medicine, led another delegation to London in May 2025 to attract top talent, particularly in fields like medical research, artificial intelligence and big data. They also visited prestigious institutions, including the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, King's College London, the University College London, the University of Bristol and the Francis Crick Institute. Their efforts led to encouraging exchanges and potential partnerships. They also held a gathering with alumni and exchange students, further strengthening connections. On 26 May, Dean Professor Chak-sing Lau led a pivotal session titled ‘Unlocking the Potential of AI in Healthcare’ at the Asia Summit on Global Health. Co-organised by the HKSAR Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the session convened experts in computer science, medical data science and AI, along with representatives from the government and healthcare sectors. The discussion explored AI's transformative impact across medical research, education and healthcare services. Further highlighting HKUMed's expertise, on the following day, Professor Stephanie Ma Kwai-yee, University Associate Vice-President (Research and Innovation) (also with Biomedical Sciences), and Professor Brian Chung Hon-yin (Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, SClinMed) addressed cancer evolution and the urgent need for rare diseases treatments. Building on this momentum, HKUMed reinforced Hong Kong's status as a burgeoning biotech hub at BIO 2025 in Boston from 16 to 19 June. HKUMed representatives, including Professor Stephanie Ma Kwai-yee and Professor Joshua Ho Wing-kei, Assistant Dean (Innovation & Technology Transfer), joined a delegation of 16 leading life and health technology companies for the first time, led by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and InvestHK. Significantly, five of the participating companies are affiliated with HKUMed. The Faculty also showcased projects from its Centre for Translational Stem Cell Biology and Centre for Virology, Vaccinology and Therapeutics.
