It is with profound sadness that HKUMed reports the passing of Dr Wong Chit-ming, former Associate Professor of the School of Public Health and a respected member of the Faculty, on 6 March 2025. Dr Wong was an esteemed alumnus of HKU, beginning his academic career at the University in 1982 and dedicating several decades to public health research and education. He served as an Assistant Professor in the former Department of Community Medicine from 1993, later becoming an Associate Professor in 2003 until his retirement from the School of Public Health in 2015. He continued to serve the School as an Honorary Associate Professor post-retirement until 2018. Throughout his tenure, Dr Wong led numerous impactful research projects, focusing on critical public health issues such as air pollution, influenza, and environmental health. Notably, he coordinated multi-city studies across Asia, including landmark projects on air pollution and disease burden, which have shaped public health policy and practice. His dedication to addressing these pressing challenges has left an indelible mark on the field. With a total of 100 papers published in peer-reviewed international journals, Dr Wong's scholarly work and mentorship will continue to inspire generations of public health practitioners and researchers. His significant contributions have had a lasting international impact. As a cherished member of the HKUMed family, Dr Wong’s remarkable legacy will endure.
