I encountered a strong emphasis on practical learning and flipped-classroom formats, and took the leap to compete in the Indo-Pacific Global Health Case Competition as the only exchange student, alongside a team of local health science students. The exchange brought unexpected friendships into my life, led me to seriously consider postgraduate study abroad, and solidified my interest in biomedicine. Studying Biomedical Sciences at HKU helped me discover the field I’m truly passionate about by exposing me to a variety of research topics. Through structured courses, lab attachments, and practical sessions, I learned to design experiments, evaluate data critically, and troubleshoot when things don’t work out as planned. In my current role, I’m able to approach challenges methodically using the skills I developed in a collaborative environment that encouraged learning through trial and error. My studies in Biomedical Sciences built a strong foundation for my transition into veterinary medicine. Through studying disease mechanisms, microbiology, and clinical sciences, I developed an understanding of public health and the important connection between human and animal health. The BBiomedSc programme also introduced me to clinical research, strengthening my critical thinking skills while shaping my passion for improving animal welfare and contributing to the wider health community.
