I am especially proud of our focus on adolescents and young adults with brain tumours, an often-overlooked group. By expanding access to clinical trials and delivering holistic, patient-centred care, we have addressed unmet needs and enhanced the quality and quantity of life for patients in Hong Kong. Excellence in clinical service is the fusion of innovation with compassion. Despite challenges like limited resources, we succeeded through teamwork, advocacy, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. To young practitioners: lead with empathy and let patients inspire innovation.’ ‘My work in the past 8-10 years has been dedicated towards the proof of principles, raising awareness, and formulating solutions to implement advanced treatments for patients with spinal injuries. Through my work, I was able to demonstrate that our patients’ trajectory of recovery is not only an outcome of acute care, but also intimately related to our hospital built environment and sound service planning. This recognition is a testament to the resilience of the patients and families I have had the privilege to serve over the years. My journey in clinical service has been guided by a simple belief: that every individual living with a spinal injury deserves a future filled with dignity, hope, and possibility. This award strengthens my determination to continue our collective pursuit of better treatments, compassionate care, and a more inclusive world for those we serve. For me, the real reward remains the trust in a patient's eyes and the shared joy in every step of progress, no matter how small.’ ‘I am deeply honoured to receive this award, recognising my dedication to serving patients with chronic liver disease. With no universal liver screening in Hong Kong, many high-risk groups with hepatitis C virus (HCV) remain undiagnosed. I initiated micro-elimination programmes for people who inject drugs in halfway houses and people-incustody in prisons. This significantly improved linkage-tocare rates and revealed an HCV prevalence 10 times higher than in the general population. The findings will be incorporated into Hong Kong healthcare policy. I also established Queen Mary Hospital (QMH)’s Steatotic Liver Disease clinic, providing multi-disciplinary care to over 800 patients since 2021. My heartfelt thanks go to my team in the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and all collaborators. Improving health literacy and empowering patients has been most rewarding.
