In the 2025/26 academic year, the UGC-funded Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme achieved remarkable success in student recruitment. HKUMed admitted over 200 medical students based on their Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) results, including five top scorers. In addition, through the non-JUPAS route, more than 30 top-performing students from the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and those who attained 5A* in the GCE/International A-Level examinations were admitted. Consequently, 70 students are enrolled in the MBBS (Distinguished MedScholar) study track designed for outstanding achievers. The Faculty also welcomed its first cohort of students admitted through the MBBS (Graduate Entry Track). Selected from over 900 applicants, this group includes distinguished graduates from University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University College London, National University of Singapore, and Cornell University, alongside HKU graduates in disciplines such as engineering, pharmacy, and dentistry, who demonstrated outstanding academic performance. This dedicated platform advances research and education in biomedical engineering, positioning HKU as a global leader. It supports the University’s goals for interdisciplinary innovation, national development, and strengthening the status of Hong Kong, China as an international education hub. SBME will coordinate the Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering (BEng(BME)) programme, starting in the 2025/26 academic year, to cultivate talent to translate engineering principles into clinical practice. The curriculum integrates engineering principles, advanced technology, health sciences and human biology, emphasising experiential learning, practical training and interdisciplinary collaboration to meet the growing demand for biomedical specialists in Hong Kong, China and the rest of the Greater Bay Area.
